Awesome! I didn't know you played D&D. Didn't these things get victims by appearing so COMPLETELY transparent that folks would walk into them? If that were their hunting method, you'd think they'd quickly eject anything non-edible that might give them away. What good would a chest of gold floating in your middle be except to give you away?
I mostly recall encountering gelatinous cubes in hallways when rolling for "wandering monsters". The problem with a gelatinous cube was that it took up the space in a hallway, so you had little choice but to fight it or flee the other way.
